Restroom Trailers Omega J-Series
The State of the Art – Public Sanitation & Restroom Trailers
by Timothy Blevins

The need for
portable restrooms has been around since our ancestors first moved out of caves. It’s really nothing new. Let’s just say it’s had a lot of new twist in
the last thirty years. Today
portable restrooms come in several forms.

The most basic
portable restroom is generally known as a  port-a-potty or port-o-let.  These are small self contained portable restrooms made of some form of
plastic or fiberglass material. The holding tank in these portable toilets are small and meant for a single user at a time. They have no fresh water for hand
washing but can have a urinal.  The small holding tank is visible by looking through the toilet hole and usually has a small amount of a deodorizing sanitation
fluid added in the bottom before it is put into  service. The advantage of this toilet is it is relatively inexpensive to operate or rent. It can also be utilized in
more remote locations with less supervision. The disadvantages are sanitary feel of the toilet , small cramped, visible waste, odor, temperature and security.
The disadvantages of this type
portable restroom become more evident when used in larger public special events and festivals. User response at larger
tournaments and special events is generally poor, especially with women and disabled..

Then next step up is a modular approach used more commonly in Europe and UK.  This is a system of modules with multiple private toilets. This system is most
efficient at large festivals and special events. The module is not self contained and can not operate as a stand alone unit. Several modules are daisy chained
together and attached to a Jets Vacuumerator™ that liquefies the waste and pumps it to a sizable waste tank or sanitary sewer tap.  The advantages of this
system  are that it can accommodate gigantic crowds where pump trucks don’t have easy or constant access. They are easy to clean, just power wash and you
are ready for reuse. The modular toilets are wall hung vacuum flush which gives a greater sanitary feel as all waste is removed to a remote location. The
disadvantages are user security (next customer waiting just outside the door),  no hand washing inside, small, some assembly required and startup cost.
Restroom user response is usually good or above average.

Gravity flow
restroom trailers have above average approval depending on cleanliness and condition. This group of toilet trailers is probably the largest and most
diverse group of portable
restroom trailers. They range from high end executive restroom trailers and luxury toilet trailers to single remote location tactical
restrooms
and shower trailers with toilets. Due to the extra options and improved privacy these restroom trailers command a greater return per rental. There are
many standard models available at reasonable prices , considering the return on investment. Average rental on these
restroom or shower trailers generally
ranges from $600-$900 a day depending on the
toilet trailer type. Long term toilet trailer rentals for a month or more start at about $3000 per month depending
on the
restroom trailer and the area of use.  The advantages of these restroom trailers verses other portable toilets are numerous. Quick set up, roomy,
increased privacy and security, Sinks for hand washing, mirrors, other amenities, self contained and great customer approval ratings compared to other
portable toilets. The main disadvantages are height off ground require steps and landings which incur more liability.  The waste tanks are under the floor which
increase  the height of the
restroom trailer and the waste tanks in these toilet trailers will not gravity flow into a sanitary sewer tap. Most are pedal flush RV or
marine toilets and when you hold the pedal down you can see the waste in the waste tanks.  After many uses solids can build up as mounds under each toilet
witch have to be broken up from time to time. This can be done with a stick or water hose  through the toilet hole, then pump the
toilet trailer out with a pump
truck as usual.

A step above the gravity flow
restroom trailers are toilet trailers such as the AMS Global Performance restroom trailer.  This toilet trailer has the same advantages
as the gravity flow
restroom trailer and a few more. Some of the additional advantages provided utilizing the Jets Vacuumerator™ system are the choices of
pumping liquified waste into a sewer tap or vertical waste tanks. Vertical waste tanks allow these units to be closer to the ground by a foot or one whole step.
This reduces the
restroom trailer’s liability 50% or more. The toilets in this type toilet trailer are wall mounted providing for easy cleaning. The Performance
restroom trailer toilets flush on a pint of water doubling your waste tank capacity over traditional gravity flow restroom trailers. They can also pump the liquefied
waste over a hundred yards away with up to 10' of head pressure.

The most advanced restroom trailer to date is the AMS Global Omega J-Series
toilet trailer. It has all the advantages of the Performance restroom trailer and
more. This
restroom trailer actually lowers to the ground and has less liability than all the other toilet trailers. You walk directly into this toilet trailer with no
steps. It is self contained to up to 4000 flushes. These
restroom trailers have retractable tongues allowing two restroom trailers to ship in one container.
Some of the other standard features on this restroom trailer are hydraulic disc brakes, remote controlled 16,000 pound lift leveling jacks, all composite and
metal construction, all LED 30 year continues burn lighting, radiused doors with skylights, auto door closers, wet wheel bearings with 18ply rated 6000 pound
tires. This is the choice of cities, municipalities, government, armed forces and first responders.

It’s easy to see there is a wide range to pick from when it comes to
portable toilets in the sanitation industry. There is a portable toilet designed for any
application. AMS Global and it’s fleet of
restroom and toilet trailers will be there for you with a solution for any of your sanitation needs. AMS Global has restroom
